about

This set of Karganoff's "Arabesques - 12 petites pièces pour le piano, op. 6" which was first published in 1880 and dedicated to Mademoiselle Alexandrine Solovieff.
The pieces are very versatile, many of them in happy, joyful tone and mood, which much ornamentation (typical for Arabesques). And this first one is a very strong opening. Some of the pieces are a quite virtouso, especially this first one, No. 9 and No. 12. Typical of Karganoff's somewhat longer pieces are the middle sections, which often stand in stark contrast to the main section and in a completely different key. In the 1st piece there are even two inserted parts, the 2nd in G flat major. All in all, the 12 pieces are relatively demanding and varied music and quite a lot of work for a pianist.
Also typical for this set it that the pieces don't have titles except for the performance description / expression marks.Cover Art: Manuela Buechler, AI Design, Switzerland
